Foods to Fight Breast Cancer

Recently I have been getting requests from readers to write about specific breast cancer fighting foods. What a great suggestion! This information is especially important for those currently trying to fight breast cancer.

In this article you will find a list of breast cancer fighting foods I have complied from a few different resources.  These foods contain compounds that have been shown to prevent or destruct breast cancer cells in research studies.

Foods are listed in no particular order. I just tried to group “like” foods together so it will be easier to remember.


  • Blackberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, Cherries, Cranberries, Red Grapes, Cantaloupe, Mango, Papaya, Lime, Lemon, Kiwi, Nectarines, Peach, Plum, Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit and Pomegranate


  • Arugula, Bok Choy, Endive, Chard, Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, Turnip Greens, Spinach, Kale, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage (red and white), Kelp, Eggplant, Kohlrabi, Red Pepper, Rhubarb, Pumpkin, Butternut Squash, Squash, Tomato, Carrots, Daikon Radish, Rutabaga, Sweet Potato, Turnip, Garlic, Leek, Onion, Green Onion, Shallot, Mushrooms

Other Foods

  • Amaranth (grain)
  • Buckwheat (Actually a seed and despite its name, does not contain any wheat)
  • Beans such as: Black, Kidney, Pinto, and Cannellini
  • Wasabi (spicy root)
  • Turmeric (spice)

This is by no means an exhaustive list of all the foods that could help protect against breast cancer. All colorful fruits and vegetables have cancer fighting potential because they contain antioxidants, fiber, and important vitamin and minerals.

If you don’t see a vegetable or fruit on the list that you enjoy, no worries. You don’t need to stop eating it. Just be sure to incorporate foods from this list in addition to the ones you already eat. I am excited to try Amaranth; I have never cooked with it before!

Question: have any of you ever tried kelp before? How did you use it in cooking? I have been seeing a lot of recipes lately that incorporate sea vegetables, including kelp, and I am very interested to experiment with these mysterious veggies.
