How I Spent Mother’s Day

by Natalie

Last weekend, my family and I walked in the Y-Me Race Race At Your Pace to help support breast cancer.

Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization provides a crucial support program called “Your Shoes”. This program enables anyone to talk to a breast cancer survivor 24/7, 365 days a year, in 150 languages.

This was the first breast cancer walk that my family and I participated in. My mom and I had tried to do this walk a few years ago when she was going through her treatment, but she became neutropenic and we had to cancel. It was a big deal for our family to participate in the walk this year.

The race brought out more that 25,000 people! The support was amazing to see, but at the same time, sad, because you knew that every person there had been affected by breast cancer in some way.

It was difficult to see so many people walking with  “in memory of _____” on the front of their shirt. I couldn’t help but feel so blessed to have my healthy mom walking by our sides.

Here are some pictures from the race. We were so lucky to have such great weather!

What a great turn out! Notice the balloons, they are being held by breast cancer survivors.

Thank you for always being there and caring so much. It was a beautiful Mothers Day.
