Let’s start from the beginning. Juicing is the process of extracting the liquid stuff from fruits and vegetables. With juicing, all of the fiber is left behind. Pros of Juicing | Why would someone want to juice?
- Allows you to easily consume large quantities of fruits and vegetables. This is great for people who have difficulty meeting their daily fruit and vegetable requirements.
- Juicing will increase the amount of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients (powerful plant chemicals) in your diet. These nutrients keep your body working at its best and protect you from illness.
- Helps you increase the variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet. To make a top-notch juice, you must use several different kinds of fruits and vegetables.
- Tastes great!
- Makes you feel like you are doing something immediate to improve your health.
Cons of Juicing | Is there anything negative about juicing?
- Juicing cannot be a replacement for whole fruits and vegetables. It can help you eat more of these amazing foods, but it does not deliver all the benefits available in whole foods. Juicing is more like a supplement to your fruit and vegetable intake. With juicing, you strip away important parts of the plant that are important for your health. That’s why it’s important that you still try to consume whole fruits and vegetables in addition to your juice.
- Can cause spikes in blood sugar. This occurs when you only drink fruit juice. Though fruits are very healthy, they are higher in sugar. Without the fiber to slow down the sugar, it hits your blood stream very fast. It is better to juice vegetables more than fruits.
- Can be pricey. Because juicing is not a replacement for whole fruits and vegetables, you have to purchase more produce to make your juices.
Who Should Consider Juicing?
I think everyone could benefit from adding a little fresh vegetable juice to their diet, but here are some people that could benefit the most:
- Those who need an easy way to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables they eat.
- Those wishing to increase the variety of fruits and vegetables they consume.
- Busy people looking for a quick, healthy breakfast or snack.
- People concerned about cancer prevention. Juicing helps deliver antioxidants, and other phytonutrients important for cancer prevention.
I have been juicing for a little less than a year now. I started because I wanted to get more benefits from fruits and vegetables. I don’t juice on a schedule or anything. At the most, I probably drink 4-5 cups of juice per week. I like to have my juice as a snack because I find that it is surprisingly fulfilling. The type of juicer I use is a Breville Multi-Speed Juice Fountain. Overall, I highly recommend juicing (vegetables). I think it is an easy way to do something healthy for yourself. Plus it tastes great!
